The levels will expand on Ezio’s story, placing him in the Battle of Forli and then during the Bonfire of the Vanities in which a monk takes power in Florence in an effort to condemn the Renaissance movement.
In an interview with the content Producer, Frederic Lefrancois commented on the levels:
The levels will complement the existing Assassin’s Creed story, and feature historically accurate Templars and Assassins. The levels will also be inserted into the story as restored versions of Desmond Miles’ previously corrupted animus memories.
As for the Bonfire of the vanities, it comes from Savonarola’s reign over Florence. The monk took power over Florence as the Medici family was expulsed. Savonarola thought that the Italian Renaissance and its intellectual and cultural progress was a sin. He organized a burning of objects which could be identified as sins such as paintings, books, mirrors, musical instruments… In the game, we illustrate Savonarola’s power and control over the most influential people of the city because he has the apple of Eden…and Ezio is there, and has to kill Savonarola’s followers, trying to overthrow his power."

The DLC isn’t going to cost players a fortune either - the Battle of Forli download will be available at the end of January and priced at $3.99, while February will feature the Bonfire of the Vanities download priced at $4.99! The content will require a minimum of 1.0 GB of hard drive space, and will be available to gamers who own the Assassin’s Creed 2 game disc.
