Ubisoft has been working diligently to make sure Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s community playlist for Story Creator Mode is free of any unfair XP farming quests for players to choose from. Some common themes with these exploits include short, repetitive quests that offer a massive amount of experience points when complete. The developer has stated it’ll be looking into further methods of punishment for repeat offenders. However, with the latest Assassin’s Creed game being a solely single-player experience, there aren’t many other means of enforcement other than banning those guilty from using the new creation tools entirely.

It’s unfortunate to see Ubisoft’s hands-off approach to user creativity as a way for a number of people to take advantage of the situation. It’s true Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is a massive game with hundreds of hours of content available, but with the confirmation there won’t be a new Assassin’s Creed game this year, there’s no need for players to rush through their respective character’s experience levels.

Since releasing in October 2018, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey has undergone a number of changes as a way to extend the experience of the franchise’s new Ancient Greek setting. While some changes include planned DLC storylines with Legacy of the First Blade and The Fate of Atlantis, the game’s original level cap 50 has been increased multiple times, and new game plus mode arrived back in February, allowing players to carry their gear and experience into a brand new playthrough of the story.

While there are ways to naturally level up in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, it’s worth mentioning the game has an easy-to-access digital store that offers a permanent experience boost for your character. Ubisoft’s move to curate user-generated content could be seen as a way to continue steering people towards throwing a few bucks its way for a small advantage, but with the positive fan reception of the past two entries in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, establishing a fair community experience seems just as important. Ubisoft likely is monitoring its new Story Creator for both reasons.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is available now for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version also in development.
