Springer left Sunday’s 3-2 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the third inning after hurting his thumb.
The 28-year-old outfielder suffered the injury while sliding into second base on a stolen base attempt in the third inning.
Springer was examined by trainers on the field and walked off holding his left hand before undergoing X-rays.
“At first, I thought it was the base that caught him, and when I got out there both [Dodgers shortstop Chris] Taylor and [second baseman Brian] Dozier told me the glove had clipped his hand [on the tag],” Astros manager AJ Hinch said.
“He was in a lot of pain. It bothered him, so it was an easy decision to bring him out. He was going to get evaluated.”
Springer hit a solo home run to centerfield in the first inning. He was replaced in the line-up by Jake Marisnick.
The 2017 MLB World Series MVP and two-time Silver Slugger entered Sunday with a .248/.333/.428 slash line.
Meanwhile, Houston placed starter Lance McCullers Jr. on the DL with right elbow discomfort.
