This week’s sale lasts until September 15 and has a twofold commemorative value. The first of which is celebrating Assassin’s Creed’s 15th anniversary, which Ubisoft states it has some big news for. The second is Ubisoft Forward, which will have not only a focus on Assassins and Templars but also the whole catalog of the publisher’s upcoming titles. With the recently announced Assassin’s Creed Mirage reportedly going back to basics and allegedly playing more like the franchise’s legacy titles, it might be a good time to check out some older games in the series....

Although the idea of the narrative-focused series turning into a live-service franchise still doesn’t sit well with many fans, the idea that it won’t be free-to-play gives the impression that Assassin’s Creed Infinity won’t fall prey to the common complaints that free-to-play live service games frequently inspire players to make. That’s not to say that Assassin’s Creed Infinity is completely out of the woods just yet, as previous entries have been critiqued for using similar tactics like microtransactions, but there’s the potential for Infinity to rise above the live-service model and deliver a better experience now that it’s been confirmed to not be free-to-play....

The next major releases after Mirage have already been mapped out by Ubisoft, being Assassin’s Creed Red and Hexe on the Assassin’s Creed Infinity platform. That means a direct sequel to Mirage doesn’t appear to be in the pipeline yet, let alone two of them. But it could be a real missed opportunity for Ubisoft if Basim’s story is kept to only one game. The setting of Assassin’s Creed Mirage and its wider role in the series’ narrative might make it the perfect candidate for a trilogy akin to Ezio’s....

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey first raised eyebrows with an impressive demonstration at E3 2018, showcasing a new choice-based dialogue system and gorgeous setting in Ancient Greece. A recent interview with game director Scott Phillips reveals all new details, including that Odyssey will take a lot longer to beat than its predecessor, Assassin’s Creed Origins. Director Scott Phillips confirms that Odyssey will be a “much, much longer” game than Origins, which is a pretty substantial experience itself at around 30 hours to beat for the average player....

There was no artwork for the achievements nor an image or description of the game, with the account being a random string of numbers. As this Assassin’s Creed Valhalla leak seemingly originates on 4chan, it must be met with the proper dosage of salt. However, the achievements are rather convincing, so if this is fake, it is a good fake. If it is indeed legitimate, then stranger things have happened....

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will take place around ninth-century Europe and boasts of a potentially bigger map than gamers have seen. The game follows Eivor, a Viking who leads his people out of Norway into the broken kingdoms of England and the notorious Saxons. “Players must carve out a new future for their clan,” the official Ubisoft announcement states. “…reliving the ruthless fighting style of Viking warriors with a revamped combat system that includes the ability to dual-wield weapons against a greater variety of enemies than ever before....

Speaking to Press Start, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla creative director Ashraf Ismail said that with the balancing of the game, the goal of the development team is to “just let players play the content they want.” Players who want to enjoy the game’s narrative will be able to, while those who want to enjoy the game’s settlement building gameplay can put their time into that. The series is known for taking players across different periods of history and putting them between a millennia-old conflict between two secret organizations.
